Wheat-grass, or scientific name Triticum Aestivum, is the grass or the harvest from the cotyledons of the young wheat plant, and its common modes of consumption are by blending it into a juice or as a concentrated powder. Then in the 1940s, Dr. Schnabel discovered some healing properties of wheat-grass, so he made some various forms of products for public consumption such as the medicinal powder and other nutritional wheat-grass supplements.
In America, a Lithuanian immigrant and Boston resident Ann Wigmore promoted wheat-grass as part of a healthy diet. She named the process as "Wheat-grass Diet" - a type of vegetarian diet which is heavily based on the treating properties of wheat-grass. Wigmore died in 1993, but she left an existing healthy wheat-grass diet plan and wheat-grass info book that is still being followed and used by many individuals all over the globe, and an institute to conduct further wheat-grass studies. Presently, the use of wheat-grass is well-known worldwide.
