How many extra calories does It take to Grown a Baby?
You don’t need to focus on calories during pregnancy, but
you may be interested in the number of extra calories in your diet it take to
grow a baby. (Remember, the number varies widely, depending on your metabolism,
daily activity, and variety of other factors.)
During in second trimester, you’ll turn an average of about
180 calories a day into new tissue (For yourself and the baby). You’ll also
burn an extra 160 calories a day in increased energy needs, for a total of 340
calories a day about the equivalent of three heaping tablespoons of peanuts
butter.
During in third trimester the 180 calories a day of new
tissue continues, plus 272 calories a day of increased energy need, for a total
of 452 calories a day still considerably less than the lowest calorie hot fudge
sundae on the Baskin Robbins menu!
