Herbs  and Spices
Spices and herbs are more than just tasty additions to flavor our food: their concentrated flavor mirror the concentrated nutrients within. It’s no surprise there are so many health benefits suggested from research into herbs and spices. Here are few example:
1. Basil: Packed with flavonoid and anti-inflammatory oils, basil is also loaded with vitamin K, iron, calcium, and vitamin A. It can help prevent and beat infections.
2. Cinnamon: Most of the recent scientific excitement has been around its ability to help control blood sugar, but even the smell of cinnamon can improve brain function.
3. Cumin: Part of the great flavor of Tex-Mex and Latin cuisine, cumin is also used in dishes from india and the middle East and for good reason. This curry ingredient contains potent antioxidants to help prevent and repair damage of many kinds.
4. Mustard seed: Mustard has been used medicinally since the time of Hipocrates. It helps to prevent damage from chemicals
5. Oregano : Popular in food from Mexico to the Mediterranean, this herb provides its own unique mix of antioxidant, antibacterial, and antifungal properties.
6. Sage: The Latin name for this herb is Salvia means “to be saved”. But the most recent science centers around sage’s ability to enhance memory and help brain function.
7. Thyme: This herb has a long history as a natural medicine for infections, especially for respiratory infection and other respiratory problems. Recent research is confirming its value.
8. Turmeric: This curry spice is a scientific superstar with perhaps more suited benefits than any other herb or spice. It contains the potent anti-inflammatory curcumin, which can be effective in preventing childhood cancer such as leukemia
